In the Texas Christian University Nanotechnology Lab, Chemistry Professor Eric Simanek has developed a method of delivering precise doses of chemotherapy drugs directly to tumors, bypassing healthy tissue. Preliminary trials (on rats) look promising: A rat with a tumor was treated with the “nano-chemotherapy” and its tumor disappeared in a matter of weeks! The premise behind this therapy is not new–it has been worked on before–but the results from these trials look very promising. The therapy works by attaching a nanopartical to the chemo drug molecule, which sizes the molecule so that it is not absorbed by healthy tissues. For more information: bionicme.com
